Smuggling phones into nations where the import duty on phones is very high has been an increasingly widespread practice in recent years. Pakistan is included in this group of nations because of its high import tariff on mobile phones in general and iPhones in particular.

The most recent sources indicate that Pakistan Customs officers made an arrest at Jinnah International Airport on Monday, seizing iPhones with a combined value of more than Rs 20 million. According to various reports, an iPhone smuggling incident occurred aboard a flight that originated in the United States and ended in Karachi.
