PTA Taxes For iPhone 5, 5s, 5c, iPhone 6, & iPhone 6 Plus
The iPhone’s ability to maintain value over an exceptionally extended length of time is undoubtedly its strongest feature. Other smartphone brands frequently lack the same level of durability as an iPhone. You might be surprised to learn that even certain older iPhones are still quite expensive in Pakistan, though. The primary telecom regulator in our nation, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), recently increased the tax on imported mobile phones, which is the cause of this.
Many experts attribute this increase to the depreciating currency and restricted State Bank reserves. Even though we think that this is a good step for shops that import phones in huge quantities, it doesn’t seem fair to the average user who imports a particular smartphone for his or her own usage. Pakistan has a large market for older iPhone models like the 5, 6, and others. We will now discuss the increased taxes for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 series.
New PTA taxes on iPhone 5 Series:
Devices | PTA Tax on Passport (PKR) | PTA Tax on CNIC (PKR) |
iPhone 5 | 6400 | 7843 |
iPhone 5s | 6400 | 7843 |
iPhone 5c | 6400 | 7843 |
Tax on iPhone 6 Series:
Devices | PTA Tax on Passport (PKR) | PTA Tax on CNIC (PKR) |
iPhone 6 | 35529 | 40000 |
iPhone 6 Plus | 35529 | 40000 |
As you can see, the taxes on the iPhone 6 series are quite high, which drives up the cost of the smartphone as a whole. Can you picture it? In Pakistan, a phone that is about 7 years old still costs around PKR 60–70,000. This is outrageous, and the government needs to come up with a new tax plan that exempts older phones from paying taxes.
